GARVIES POINT MUSEUM DAY - Saturday, August 3rd * 10am - 4pm
Insect study, nature walks, bird-watching, paper-making workshop, explore our native habitat gardens, ROck & mineral ID, films and more!
Fun for all ages, *$5 per person 5 years and older,
includes all activities and museum admission. Free for current members. Rain or shine, activities held both indoors and outdoors.
July 6: FROM GLACIERS TO WIGWAMS: Native American history as it relates to Long Island's geological past.
This gallery tour is an overview of Long Island geology, natural history and prehistoric Native American lifeways. Ages 8+.
July 13: HABITAT HIKE
Join a Garvies naturalist on a guided walk through our nature preserve to discover a variety of habitats.
You never know what you may see!
July 20: GEOLOGY OF GARVIES POINT & LONG ISLAND
Learn about local geological phenomena including concretions, rattlestones,
Cretaceous clays & plant fossils, & more. Followed by a walk along our rocky beach.
July 27: BEACH EXPLORATION
Search the shoreline! Discover the plants and animals of our rocky beach including crabs, snails, mussels & more!
Wear water shoes or sneakers, no flip flops. Hands-on discovery for kids of all ages.
August 10: WATER EROSION
See our stream table in action! Observe how water sculpts the land in this engaging program.
August 17: BIRDS, BUTTERFLIES & BLOOMS:
Join us as we explore our beautiful bird & butterfly
friendly gardens in search of butterflies, insects, flowers, birds & pollinators! Hands-on discovery for kids of all ages.
August 24: NATIVE AMERICANS OF LONG ISLAND:
Learn about local prehistoric Native Americans lifeways including food, clothing, shelter, culture & more!
Kids will also experience our "Woodland Village" exhibit, where they can go in a real dugout canoe, plant "vegetables", and go in the wigwam! Ages 5+.
